A
burger prepared by Shaikh Mohammed bin Abdullah Al Thani, Chairman of the
Department of Statistics and Community Development in Sharjah, fetched the Pink
Caravan Dh25,960 ($7,000) at an auction held to raise funds for the campaign.
Shaikh
Mohammed Al Thani who is also ambassador of the Pink Caravan, was taking part
in ‘Pink Bite’, an event where Pink Caravan ambassadors were divided into three
teams to prepare burgers and sell them at the highest price during the
45-mitnute auction. The previous most expensive burger in the world was sold
for $5,000 in Las Vegas. The Higher Organising Committee of the Pink Caravan
announced that the charity auction raised Dh72,180.
Taking
part in the event along with Shaikh Mohammed Al Thani’s team were his sons,
Shaikh Abdullah and Shaikh Sultan, as well as TV presenters Saoud Al Kaabi and
Ameera Al Fadl in other teams.
The
event was held in the presence of Ameera Binkaram, president of the board of
trustees and founding member of the Friends of Cancer Patients charity (FoCP);
Reem Binkaram, head of the Pink Caravan Event Committee; Pink Caravan Ambassador
Marwan Jassim Al Serkal, CEO of Sharjah Investment and Development Authority
(Shurooq), and other officials.
Shaikh
Mohammed Al Thani’s team raised Dh47,520, including the sale of the world’s
most expensive burger, while the team of TV presenter Saoud Al Kaabi and artist
Fayez Al Saeed collected Dh13,000. Ameera Al Fadl along with her team sold
burgers for Dh11,660 — with all the money raised from the burger auction going
to the Pink Caravan.
Ameera
Binkaram expressed her delight at the support the Pink Caravan has received. “I
am proud of Pink Caravan ambassadors who have proved their supportive stand by
the Pink Caravan to enable it to achieve its goals. We have succeeded once
again in delivering our message in supporting the Pink Caravan’s mission and highlighting
breast cancer in a fun and entertaining manner during the Pink Bite event whose
revenues will go to the Pink Caravan Ride, to raise awareness about early
detection of breast cancer,” she said.
“It
was great to be able to host the Pink Bite event. The pink ambassadors really
came together, totally out of their comfort zone and into the kitchen! They
were all excellent and embraced the spirit of this charitable event night. Not
forgetting a big thank you to all our generous customers who managed to raise
an incredible sum of money for such a worthy cause,” said Russell Impiazzi,
Culinary Director of Lafayette Gourmet at Galeries Lafayette, The Dubai Mall,
where the event was held.
